So once again, we had a very successful clinic yesterday helping people with various diet related issues- weight loss, irritable bowel syndrome, anaemia and fatigue.
Just a couple of points I want to draw your attention to from yesterday and which I think are very important.
- Just because you exercise a lot, does not in anyway mean you will lose weight. Weight loss comes from a combination of exercise AND nutrition. If you are eating more or the same amount of calories that you burn off – you will NOT lose weight.
- Oily fish (e.g. salmon/herring/ kippers) is very very good for you and something you should include in your diet – I have now heard several times of personal trainers telling clients to avoid it because of the calorie content. Yes it is higher than a non-oily fish because of the reduced fat content, but it is NOT high calorie and the oil in it has amazing benefits for your heart.
- Bananas are not fattening – again a couple of people have been told by their PT’s to avoid bananas. Bananas are only around 100 calories, high in fibre, high in vitamins, low GI and keep you full for longer.
- Please, please, please avoid anyone selling allergy testing. Yesterday, this actually caused one woman to become seriously quite unwell as she had been given such a long list of foods to avoid. Guess what, when we reintroduced them – she had no reactions and is now on her way to recovering!! If you think you may have an allergy or intolerance, speak to your GP who can arrange for accurate, safe AND free testing.
