Welcome to the weekly dietitian clinic summary, where I share some of my client’s stories and my own observations with you. Learning from each other can be one of the best ways to progress in life, so why not apply it to nutrition also?
So this week seemed to be mostly weight loss clients which you will see is reflected in my points below.
- Just a few treats here and there can ruin your weight loss efforts, meaning that the 90% of the time healthy efforts have gone to waist. The problem with some foods/ drinks is they contain SO many calories that in just a small amount you can soon rack up the calorie content. For example, you need to drop 500 calories/day to lose weight. Well that means 1 slice of cake is 1 day’s weight loss gone, 1 bottle of wine is 1-2 day’s gone, fish and chips is 2 day’s gone (see how this could soon add up). All you need to do, is simply BE AWARE – all about the compromise.[spacer height=”20px”]
- Healthy eating is NOT about simply living longer, but about living better. Yes you could live till your 90 but wouldn’t you like to do it without being blind/ having to go to hospital to have your blood cleaned/ injecting yourself with medications daily/ not being able to go on holiday and not being dependent on others? Yes, so healthy eating isn’t all that bad when you think what you could get in return.[spacer height=”20px”]
- Just because it is free, does not mean that we have to eat it! What is wrong with the British public? Anything for a bloody freebie. I sat and watched whilst some locals swarmed the cheese shop the other day as they were giving out free samples. Control yourself people. The same could be said for fizzy drinks with takeaways/ buy one get one free on unhealthy food/ deserts with set menus/ all inclusive holidays/ free refills on drinks etc. [spacer height=”20px”]
- Please do not use the weather as an excuse for lack of exercise. Winter happens every year and for the British it happens a lot of the ‘summer’ too – so stop acting all surprised and unprepared – instead, embrace the weather and get a plan in place – guess what, you can use it again next year.
