Fatty liver disease is an increasingly common liver condition. Unlike other types of liver disease – this type is not as a result of alcohol.
Fatty liver disease occurs due to fatty deposits building up around the liver, causing inflammation. This gradually prevents the liver from working properly.
If you do nothing, fatty liver disease will worsen over time to eventually cause scarr
ing to build around the liver. This stage is called cirrhosis and is life threatening.
Cirrhosis in the liver will cause liver failure and or liver cancer.
Luckily, with the correct dietary changes you can reverse the early stages of this condition to prevent it worsening.
Reducing body fat through a healthy lifestyle will help to reduce those fat deposits causing inflammation. Some foods can cause further inflammation in fatty liver disease and these would also need to be avoided.
Seeing a dietitian who specialises in gastroenterology (digestive health) is vital. You may not know this, but the liver is, in fact, part of the digestive system and so falls under this area.
Throughout my career, I have worked with all types and stages of liver disease and so have a great wealth of experience in getting clients on the diet they need. I have also undertaken extra training in liver disease to stay up to date with the latest scientific information and treatments – providing you with the gold standard care you need.
