If you are trying to lose weight, trying to stay the same weight or just generally health conscious…you will want to weigh yourself to mark your goals. Weight is a great indicator of how healthy we are and is often easy to do in our own homes, but how often should we do it?
Many of us are guilty of weighing ourselves every day. However, this does not give an accurate reflection of our ‘true weight.’ This is because our total weight is made up of several different factors, one of which is the fluid in your body. Depending on if your are very dehydrated or well hydrated, could mean a difference of several kilograms.
Weighing yourself frequently and getting these unhelpful readings could lower your mood, causing you to not want to bother with your healthy regime anymore.
So, how often should you weigh yourself?
If you are overweight or underweight, then weighing yourself once a week is more than adequate.
If you are a healthy weight, it is important to weigh yourself once a month. You may even just want to keep note of any changes in clothes sizes instead.
When should you weigh yourself?
Ideally in the morning, as this is likely to be when you have the most consistent amount of fluid in your body. It is also generally more convenient for those who work.
What should you wear?
Ideally nothing at all. But if you are wearing clothes (especially shoes and coat) take a note of this so that you can account for any weight changes next time you hop on the scales.
