🙋‍♀️Considering that IBS may impact as many as 1 in 5 people, it really isn't given enough consideration at all! IBS is a 'taboo' subject and we just don't talk about it when we should! Then we go a little deeper and the problems IBS causes takes another level of 'tabooness' meaning that those going through this just feel very alone.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

🤓Although IBS can be an absolute minefield, I want you to know that it does not need to be!! Take a breath (we need to do this) and look at working with a dietitian who can take the pressure off and walk you through a step by step process to getting that control you need. AND us dietitians are used talking about all these subjects (we have zero boundaries!!) so we can be a person for you to lean on.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

SOCIALISING AND IBS.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

🤯Socialising when you have IBS can be really quite a stressful concept. You make plans in advance, only to have to cancel short notice because of a flare up. Socialising usually consists of eating food - most likely foods that you can not tolerate. And what about access to the bathroom? Then there is the anxiety element, before anything has even happened, the thought of something happening can cause the flight or flight response in your to trigger your IBS.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🧐While many people have suffered with the isolation from lockdown, I often hear IBS sufferers say that it was good for them as they had more control being at home. But as lockdowns start to lift, the problem comes back.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

🤷‍♀️Do you know that more women are diagnosed with IBS than men? We don't know 100% why but my guessing is this cycle has something to do with it!.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🙋‍♀️In the week before your period, your progesterone and testosterone levels drop, causing your gut to become more sensitive. Your behaviour also changes, research has shown that our portion sizes tend to be larger at this time AND to top it off, your mood will be lower. All these things will impact your IBS.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
😅You may wish to curl into a ball but this is only going to make the situation worse. So here are some easy to implement tips;
1. Balance your portions of food.
2. Move daily (even a gentle walk or some stretching for 30 mins).
3. Prioritise sleep.
4. Try meditation.
